Chartered Institute of Marketing – Introductory Certificate
Distance Learning Study Method
This course is aimed at those who are interested
in finding out more about marketing, whether their job involves
marketing or not. It provides information about what marketing is
and it aims to develop knowledge and skills for people who are
working to support others in basic marketing tasks. It is a Level 3
qualification (equivalent to A Levels).

The typical profiles of people who might take
this qualification could include:
- non-marketers (possibly middle management), wanting to develop a
broader knowledge or understanding of marketing, or those wanting to
progress a career in marketing
- individuals on the periphery of marketing or those in jobs with
some marketing involvement such as Event Management assistants,
Personal assistants, those undertaking junior marketing, secretarial
or administrative roles and Customer Service/Call-Centre employees

All our courses run over a calendar year. This helps students balance the demands of home, work & study and leads to higher pass rates.
Our Distance Learning Introductory Certificate course runs from:
- September 2009 to August 2010
- January 2010 to December 2010
Delivery Method
Our approach is a blended learning package of e-lessons supplemented
using tutorials and email feedback by experienced CIM lecturers.
Where appropriate assignment briefings are made using web
meetings and conference calls.
The e-lessons and other study resources are available from Intensive
Marketing’s Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle.
Moodle
Moodle enables students to access study materials over the Internet.
Specific to each unit, a typical Moodle group includes
e-lessons, directed reading materials, additional learning
resources, case examples, relevant web links and forums.
Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are required but a good standard of written
English is essential for the written assessment (GCSE or equivalent
NVQ Level 2). If English is not your first language you will need to
provide evidence of at least IELTS 6.5 or Trinity ISE III/IV.
Course Assessment
This course is continually assessed.
Unit 1 – What is Marketing? This is using a one hour online test
(this will be booked at a centre near to where you live)
Unit 2 – Understanding Customer Relationships. This using a written
project made up of a number of short, work-based, tasks.
Course Fees (2009)
For courses starting from September 2009 onwards:
• £750 + VAT for the entire course
There are additional costs paid directly to the CIM for Annual membership
and assignment submissions. You will also need to purchase CIM
recommended text books.
